More Dreamhost issues, moving blogs

Dreamhost is having another scheduled server outage tonight that may last as long as twelve hours. If you’re trying to find the blogs at ask-mark.com, you may not be able to reach them until 2008-03-22 11:00 a.m. CDT.

As an aside, I have been considering moving the other blogs currently hosted at ask-mark.com to another domain. This is currently being considered because lately I am finding it less appropriate to host the other blogs at a domain that is supposed to represent me. I had created another domain, blogho.us, to server this purpose, but it has been made clear that the domain is stupid and easily misunderstood. I will probably end up killing that off and moving all of these blogs to WordPress.com. The site offers free hosting, up to 3GB, and it uses the familiar WordPress blogging software, albeit in a modified multi-user installation. That should make it easy for my bloggers to get accustomed to it.

Once Dreamhost comes back up, I am going to see how difficult it will be to export the other blogs at ask-mark.com and blogho.us to WordPress.com. It is supposed to be an easy migration, but I know that the files that have been uploaded to the wp-content folder may make the process a little bit trickier. I’ll see how that goes, and I’ll post any information that I find that might make the process easier for others.

For now, though, I am going to bed. We will be having some guests in the morning for lunch, and I’ll need to get up early enough to start on the beef in time for Saturday night’s dinner.

Checking in

I’m just checking in here. I haven’t posted anything here in almost two years, which means that Dreamhost has been good to me. I just confirmed my OpenID through WordPress, and synchronized it with my OpenID plugin at ask-mark.com.

Dreamhost issues

It appears that Dreamhost has some power problems in their data center. I think that is the cause of my site’s outage. Looking around at some other sites that I know are hosted on Dreamhost, it looks like the problem is fairly widespread.

Here we go again

The Dreamhost emergency status page reports that there were some problems with their primary DNS server. Of course, all of the domains I host at Dreamhost have their primary DNS server listed as Dreamhost’s primary DNS server. So, ask-mark.com and all of the blogs hosted there are currently unavailable. Keep checking back to see when the DNS problems have resolved themselves (pun intended).

My second home

Well, I’ve managed to mess up all of ask-mark.com by trying out Subversion on Dreamhost. So, I just wanted to let everyone know that I, and the other bloggers on ask-mark.com, are all alive and well. I’m awaiting a few settings changes by the fine folks at Dreamhost. All should be well by Monday.
